Laser Hair Removal Treatment

While there are many options available when considering laser hair removal, Dr.Peter Malouf and his expert staff employ the most state-of-the-art laser systems in the DFW when removing unwanted hair. The light from the lasers is absorbed by the pigment in your actively growing hair, which effectively disables the hair follicle in which it rests. This hair removal treatment can be individually tailored to the patient’s skin type, thus maximizing safety and efficacy. This laser technology can remove hair from both the face and body, even being effective in areas as sensitive as the upper lip.

Not only does laser hair treatment remove the hair, but it also removes it from below the skin where razors cannot reach. Because of this, patients lose the dark shadow appearance the can still be visible right after a shave. It is because of the melanin in this sub surface hair that you may look unshaven even when you have.

Because this treatment can only target hair that is in an active growth phase, it may take numerous treatments for the best results. It is important to understand that this specifically targets the hair follicle, so shaving beforehand will yield best results. Treatments are spaced 6-8 weeks apart, and the number of sessions varies depending on the location and quantity of the unwanted hair.

Some areas of skin are more sensitive than others, so a topical anesthetic may be applied before the procedure. During the treatment, one can expect minimal discomfort, akin to rubber bands being snapped on the skin. The duration of the treatment will vary based on the size of the area being treated, but most sessions will only last 30 minutes to one hour. This is a zero downtime procedure, so patients can return to their normal activities immediately following. It is required that treated areas have sunscreen applied to them before outdoor activities. Slight redness may be evident for a few hours after treatment as well.

While laser hair removal yields permanent results, hair growth patterns change as we age, so new hair growth is possible in years to come. It should also be noted that this treatment only works on hair with the melanin pigment, meaning that it is not useful when targeting gray, white, red, or blonde hair.
